Aside from a break-up rumor about a year ago, you don't hear much about Stuart Townsend and Charlize Theron. They keep it pretty low-key (though I will forever love the paparazzi pic of Charlize and the apple bong). But Townsend's got a movie he's pimping--"Battle in Seattle," which he wrote and directed and which co-stars Theron--so he's talking to the press, not just about the film, but about his relationship.
"I'm married. I didn't do a church wedding or anything, but we're married. We're husband and wife...We didn't have a ceremony. I don't need a certificate or the state or the church to say otherwise. So no there's no big official story on a wedding, but we are married. ... I consider her my wife and she considers me her husband."
Aww, that's sweet. And it totally reminds me of my grandmother--whose one bit of sage advice to me was "don't get married, just live together. That way when you break up, you don't have to get lawyers involved." She'd say it while pointing her finger at me for emphasis, too--and because she had arthritis it was curved, so it looked like she was actually pointing off somewhere over my shoulder. Good times--and probably explains where I got my cynical nature.
I think I like Stuart. He seems like a straight-up kind of guy. The movie, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, drew a mixed reaction from the audience, but has been approached by a few distributors and is said to be close to making a deal. Nice to see a good guy, whose pretty much just been in Charlize's shadow their whole relationship, get some acclaim.
