Bill Murray Gets Sued For Divorce

Bill Murray's wife is suing him for divorce on the grounds of drug addiction, physical abuse, adultery, and abandonment, per People magazine.  She's also requesting a restraining order against him.  Wow, what a catch!  He's back on the market, ladies!  Don't waste time or someone else will grab him up (sadly, that's probably true).

Jennifer Murray alleges that Murray's alcohol, marijuana, and sex addictions were what caused her to take their four kids and move to a new home in 2006.  In the filing, it states Bill "hit his wife in the face and then told her she was 'lucky he didn't kill her.'"

This is bad.  I'm never going to be able to watch "Caddyshack" again without thinking about this.  Thanks for ruining one of my guilty pleasures, Bill.

The couple has a pre-nup, which would give Jennifer $7 million in the event of a divorce, but she wants the court to determine if that agreement is valid.  Which means she's looking for a bigger payout.  Bill's been around a long time, he must have a lot of bank.  And she put in 10 years with this dude, plus has four of his kids.  She is so going to take him for as much as she can.  No more weed money for Billy Boy.

Lindsay Not So Lucky For "Ugly Betty"

I totally forgot Lindsay was doing a guest appearance last week on "Ugly Betty" until it was already over.  Which appears to be a common theme: the ABC show didn't see a huge spike in the ratings with the stunt casting of Lilo as a mean girl.  Though the finale attracted 8.8 million viewers--which sounds like a lot to me--that was only 300,000 more than the prior week.  So, Lindz's appearance didn't even help up the audience by 5 per cent.  You'd think more people would tune in just to see if she could still deliver a line without having to look off-camera at a cue card.

Of course, television ratings have been down all season, in part because of the writer's strike.  However, Britney Spears' stunt casting on "How I Met Your Mother" gave that show a huge ratings boost.  Which, depending on how you look at it, could actually be hopeful news for Lilo.  She needs to spin it in her head as America not thinking there's as much potential for a disaster with her as there is with Brit Brit.  On the other hand, it is important to be the best at something, even if that is at being a trainwreck.

"Sex And The City" Scores Overseas

"Sex and the City" is off to a good start at the box office, taking in $4.8 million on its first day of release in the U.K. and France.  What?  They opened in Europe before they opened in the States?  After all SJP's blathering about NYC being "the fifth lady?"  How dare they!

OK, I'm over it.  Anyway, the film brought in $4 million in Great Britain and about $800,000 in France, which either means the French are more discriminating or Brits had nothing else to do with their Wednesdays.

The film opens Thursday in Germany and Singapore, and rolls out on Friday in Italy and the U.S.  And then we'll see if four over-forty women can overtake a geriatric Indiana Jones.  I'm gonna go with the ladies.  One kick to Indy's shins with their Manolas and he'll be toast.

Ashlee Simpson Confirms She's Pregnant

Wow, what a shock!  Ashlee Simpson--oops, sorry, Ashlee Simpson Wentz--confirmed tonight that she's pregnant.  Look at the surprised looks on all our faces.  I'm aghast, I'm agog, I just can't believe it.  Yawn.  What some people will do to stay relevant.

The Simp-Wentzes announced the pending baby on Pete's blog in typical Simpson-esque fashion:

"While many have speculated about this, we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child. This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family."

They forgot to add that they were blessed and that the baby was sure to be amazing.  Honestly, must I tell them everything?  If they want Tom Cruise-size attention, they have to play it up more!  There's never enough adjectives when dealing with matters of publicity.  For god's sake, have they learned nothing from Papa Joe?  Who, by the way, you know is already taking bids for baby's first pictures--if not a front row seat in the delivery room.

George Clooney And Sarah Larson: Kaput?

Did Sarah Larson exceed her freshness date?  She did if you believe In Touch magazine.  They claim that George Clooney gave his girlfriend of almost a year the boot.  Well, she is 29 and The Clooney likes to adhere to the "Logan's Run" rule: Over thirty and you're off to the glue factory.

Per an insider--who I'm sure was right on the phone with the tabloid--George is "relieved to be single again," but that breaking up was hard to do:

"He thinks Sarah is sweet and that is why it was so hard to break up with her.  The truth is that they had little in common and he just doesn't want to be tied down."

Gee, there's a shock.  A former Las Vegas cocktail waitress and a Triple A-List celebrity with nothing in common.  Go figure.

George's rep issued an interesting non-comment comment, saying:

“I can only confirm that we have never commented on George's personal life.”

Ashlee Simpson Changes Her Name

Ashlee Simpson has changed her name to Ashlee Wentz in the hopes that people will think she's a brand new person and not be so critical of her anymore.  Sure, she says it's to "honor" new husband Pete Wentz, but, c'mon, has the Simpson name really been that good to her?  Though I guess she thinks so, as she's keeping it for her professional name.  So, eh, why even tell us you're changing privately?  Does anyone care that much?  I mean, I've been sleeping fine without worrying about this. 

Whatever.  She wants us to know for some reason.  Probably so people will keep talking about her.

"I think that that's something that a woman should do when they're marrying a man.  It's a tradition that I think is a great tradition."

Why is it a tradition?  That's always bugged me.  I mean, why should the woman have to give up her name?  Why not the man?  I think Pete should start going by "Pete Simpson."  It sounds generically dweeby--which fits him to a tee.

"Sex And The City"'s Big NYC Premiere

"Sex and the City" culminated its march into theaters with a big, New York City premiere at Radio City Music Hall.  The film hits theaters this Friday and I'm still torn.  On the one hand, I loved the show and all its irritating storylines so I feel like I have to see it.  On the other, I can sit in my house and watch the dvds, which is a. cheaper and b. might be more enjoyable.  Will a full-length movie be TOO much "Sex?" 

So far the film has got a 67% rating at Rotten Tomatoes, but it's early.  Variety's review hit home with what I've been thinking:

"For a series so steeped in romance, the eagerly awaited “Sex and the City” movie feels a trifle half-hearted. Although there’s pleasure in seeing HBO’s fabulous four reunited, writer-director Michael Patrick King doesn’t fully bridge the gap between TV and film — delivering major story flourishes but, too often, playing like a regular episode bloated to five times its customary length."

This movie is almost 2 1/2 hours long?  That sounds like a big commitment to me. And I won't even be able to pause when I inevitably have to take a bathoom break.  Hmmm, I'm going to have to think about this. 

In the meantime, the ladies all donned their finest last night, to varying degrees of success.  SJP and Kristin Davis looked lovely.  Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon?  Less so.

Patrick Swayze Shares Some Good News

Patrick Swayze is responding well to treatments for pancreatic cancer and is sharing the news with his fans via People magazine. 

"Thought I'd give you guys a little update. Lisa and I have been back and forth from New Mexico enjoying the arrival of spring and new baby calves. This past weekend, we spent a fun time with friends in Reno for Lisa's birthday, where I took her jewelry shopping at Kenny G & Company and (we) were able to find her something really special and much deserved! In the meantime, I am continuing treatment at Stanford and the great news is I continue to respond well."

That actually brings tears to my eyes.  I know--who knew I actually had a soft side?  But, man, I had such a crush on Patrick Swayze back in the day.  He always seemed like such a good, and positive, person--and the way he's handled his battle with cancer these last few months confirms that to me. 

Oh!  And this is apropos of nothing (what else is new?), but did you hear they're remaking "Red Dawn?"  I am against this.  How do you beat Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Charlie Sheen, and Jennifer Grey?  The answer is: you don't!  Just say no to useless remakes!

Kirsten Dunst Not A Druggie, Just Depressed

Kirsten Dunst is talking to E! News about why she went to rehab earlier this year.  Turns out, wasn't drugs or booze, rather depression that landed her in Cirque Lodge treatment center in Utah.  Which, considering how well Lindsay Lohan's done with her recovery, is probably a good thing.  Though I think Kiki's got a (marginally) better head on her shoulders that Double L.  Then again, who doesn't?

Moving on, Dunst said she talked with doctors, family, and friends before deciding to seek that level of help.

“It was a good six months before I decided to go away.  I was struggling, and I had the opportunity to go somewhere and take care of myself. I was fortunate to have the resources to do it. My friends and family thought it was a good idea, too. But I didn't know where to go. My doctor recommended Cirque Lodge.”

She said she decided to speak out about her problems because she was bloody sick and tired of hearing the rumors and speculation.  Dude, if it wasn't for rumors and speculation I'd have no reason to get up in the morning.  Well, OK, there's coffee, but still.

“There’s been a lot of misrepresentation about what is going on in my life, and it’s been very painful for my friends and family.  Everyone feels like they have to defend me. They hear the rumors, and it puts them in a defensive position. Now that I’m feeling stronger, I was prepared to say something.”

So, in other words, if there's photos of her leaving a bar, she didn't fall off the wagon.  Oh, and in regard to those rumors that she's dating her "All Good Things" co-star Ryan Gosling.  She denies it.  That sound you hear is thousands of fan girls simultaneously sighing in relief.

Tori Spelling Moves Back Into The Zip Code

Just as I feared, Tori Spelling has officially wormed her way onto the "90210" spin-off.  A CW rep said Donna Martin is going to "own one of the coolest stores in Beverly Hills," something Tori is obviously thrilled about (then, again, she's probably just flat-out thrilled she got a job):

"Donna loved designing and wanted a career in fashion. It’ll be fun to explore that storyline.  And, I’m sure fans will be dying to know if she’s still married to David!”

I hope she's not.  They should say David came out of the closet after Donna discovered he was having a cyber-affair with George Michael, after which he moved to London to start a Wham tribute band.  That might make me interested.  Otherwise, all this hype is doing is putting me to sleep.
