Iron Man: Best. Movie. Ever.

Iron_man_2

Remember last week when I was whining over the fact that I didn't get to see "Iron Man" because I couldn't find anyone to go with me?  Well, thank Jeebus you wont have to read my sniveling drivel and jealous tirades any longer because I was escorted by a great guy to see it.  I know you want to know if it was worth the whining, the jealousy and the hype, so my review is as follows:

"Best. Movie. Ever."

"Iron Man" managed to finish at No. 1 for the second straight week with an estimated $50.5 million in box office sales, grossing an estimated $177.3 million in its first two weekends.

Two major new releases - "Speed Racer" and "What Happens in Vegas" - battled it out for second place, with "Speed Racer" {which got a lot of poor reviews} bringing in an estimated $20.2 million, while "What Happens in Vegas" {starring Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher}, took in an estimated $20 million, debuting at No. 3.

Two other romantic comedies rounded out the top five - "Made of Honor" managed to rake in $7.6 million and "Baby Mama" brought in $5.7 million.

Rounding out the top 10:

  • "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" {$3.7 million}
  • "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay" {$3.5 million}
  • "The Forbidden Kingdom" {$1.9 million}
  • "Nim's Island {$1.3 million}
  • "Redbelt" {$1.1 million}.

Ashton Kutcher: Let The Good Times Roll

Ho_demi_and_ashton

I do find it the height of hilarity that Ashton Kutcher has based his whole career on the fact that he's this funny guy, always there with a joke or to punk someone...and then when he's not in a studio or with a script in hand he looks like the most humorless gas bag in the universe.  With bad fashion sense (are those shoes "Kaballah red?").  And a wax figure for a wife.

I mean, you'd think the guy might just be a wee bit grateful for getting a career out of basically nothing.  Let's face it: his acting reeks.  He lucked into the Punk'd thing because who doesn't like to see celebrities embarrassed and that led to more producing gigs.  So, be happy for god's sake.  Enough with the "I'm so above you all" looks.  Enough with the "I'm so cool because I'm not" clothing.  And, for sure, enough with the awful, beard-like growth on his face.  It looks like he's going to be playing the Wolfman in a junior high play.

As much as I like Cameron Diaz, I really hope "What Happens In Vegas" doesn't do well.  Kutcher needs to be knocked down a few dozen pegs and just get over himself.  I know--it'll be a hit, but I can hope, can't I?

Cameron Diaz Gets Back To Work

Ho_cameron_diaz_ashton_kutcher

Following the sudden death of her father two weeks ago, Cameron Diaz made her first public appearance last night at the L.A. premiere of her new film, "What Happens In Vegas."  And, no, that's not some random radio contest winner from Backwater, Idaho standing next to her--it's Ashton Kutcher, the film's co-star.  Loved the checkered sports jacket and polka-dotted tie.  Almost as much as I love the Chia Pet beard he's cultivating.  God, I can't believe anyone thinks he's hot.  To quote my mother, "he looks like a doofus little kid."  I concur--in both theory and word choice.  Doofus is dead on.  Good call, Mom!

As to Cameron, I think she looks good.  Very Cameron-y.  Tiny dress, loose hair, average shoes--the usual.  I do adore her earrings though.  Those get an A-plus.

"What Happens In Vegas" opens next Friday, and I'm sure it'll make a ton of money and get awful reviews.  A deadly combination because it insures that Hollywood will keep making this kind of dreck.

Cameron Diaz's Father Dies

Cameron_diaz_kca_3_3Cameron Diaz's father died early on Tuesday morning, TMZ has reported.

Emilio Diaz had the flu which progressed into pneumonia.  He had been known to be in good health and his death, at the young age of 58, was unexpected and shocking.  Production of "My Sister's Keeper," the movie Cameron is currently filming, was shut down for the day.

Emilio had a bit part "There's Something About Mary."

Very sad news.  Fifty-eight is far too young to die.

My condolences to Cameron and her family.

Cameron Diaz Covers "W" Magazine

0508_wm_noupc_3

One of my favs, Cameron Diaz, covers the newest issue of "W" magazine, which hits the streets on April 22. In this newest issue, Cameron dishes on her dreams of becoming an actress, living in Manhattan, her goals and more.

Here's a sneak peek -

On whether she dreamed of being an actress when she was a kid:

"Oh, no. I wanted to be a zoologist, to study the sociology of animals,” she says. “But that’s pretty much what I do now anyway. I thought I’d be on the plains of Africa watching lions, but instead I’m in Hollywood watching train wrecks - I’m just kidding.”

On buying a place in Manhattan:

"I’m done with L.A. Those guys [the paparazzi], you can’t get away from them. You have no options because everybody’s in a car. Here, I can walk down the street like everybody else. Not everybody is there to be rich and famous or attach themselves to rich and famous people. People want nothing from you. They just want to say, like, ‘Hey, how’s it going, Cameron?’ I like that interaction. I like to be in a place where I can be open to people and not worry about the consequences.”

On her goals:

"Just kind of taking more time getting to know myself. It sounds so corny that I can’t believe I even just said that, but, you know, there comes a time when you really have to get to know who you are…I’ve just been figuring out what interests me and spending time with people who are important to me and being present in my own life.”

New Couple Alert: Cameron Diaz And Gerard Butler

Now this is an interesting possibility.  Showbiz Spy is reporting that Cameron Diaz has a new boy toy in the form of that hotty, Gerard Butler.  Girlfriend could seriously do worse than break off a piece of that, know what I mean?

According to a source (where would we be without those unnamed sources?), they been on three dates (book the church!), most recently at Shutters Hotel in Santa Monica, where they got all touchy feely.

“They walked up to the balcony area to look at the sunset. He had one arm round her waist and the other on the small of her back.  She kept giggling and touching his chest to whisper in his ear. They obviously had a good night.”

Obviously!  The lovebirds were also seen recently at Teddy's Bar in the Roosevelt Hotel, where there was--brace yourselves--"thigh touching" going on.  Question: inner or outer?  Enquiring minds want to know.

If this is true, it's a huge upgrade for Cameron, who, since breaking up with the original Punk-Ass Bitch, Justin Timberlake, has been linked to Criss Angel and John Mayer.  Then again, the bar wasn't very high.

Cameron Diaz Is A Wannabe

Cameron_diaz_kids_choice_awards

Cameron Diaz was awarded the "Wannabe" Award at the Kid's Choice Awards on Saturday.  Apparently, kids "wannabe" like Cam.  Really?  Why?  I just asked my nine-year-old niece and she took a pass.  I guess Princess Fiona just doesn't do it for her.  Then, again, she chose Miley Cyrus, so I'm not sure that's any better.

Regardless, Cameron was sporting her beach blonde bunny look.  I'm sure sure why, but I kind of like the dress.  The colors are very summery, but it's almost more beach cover-up than red--or orange--carpet.  The shoes, though...love the shoes.  It's the shoe whore in me.  I look to the feet first.

Oh, one last thing.  Cam's really getting some heavy-duty crow's feet.  Is sunscreen against her religion?

Cameron Diaz's Day Of Wine And Roses

Cameron_diaz

Cameron Diaz has a new movie coming out on May 9th, "What Happens in Vegas."  Co-starring Ashton Kutcher.  Seriously, that's all you should need to know to know you don't need to see it.  Then again, I have a huge bias against Mr. Punk'd Ass.  Oh, yes, he's so witting and clever.  First he turned the tables on celebrities, now he's turning them on the paparazzi with that stupid new show "Pop Fiction."  If you haven't seen it--and it's played on a constant loop on E! so good luck trying to miss it--celebrities trick the paps into thinking something that's not true.  Isn't that hilarious?  I know--my sides hurt just thinking about the concept.

But, back to Cameron.  She'll be showing up on a talk show near you in a few weeks pimping that movie (which, sad to say, I saw a trailer for a few weeks ago in the theater and people were howling with laughter; makes me question the collective I.Q. of our nation) and probably talking about how much fun it was and how great Ashton is and please go see it, blah de blah blah.  I suggest saving your money and renting one of her better efforts.  Or better yet: "In Her Shoes" is on TNT tonight.  Very cute movie based on a very good book.  There's my Monday pick for you.

Meanwhile, here's Cameron out buying flowers and wine yesterday.  At least she's one of those tall, thin types whose got some nice roundness to her face and doesn't look like a corpse.  And that's just good genetics.
