The much-anticipated battle between rappers 50 Cent and Kanye West began in record stores yesterday, as both albums hit store shelves and while the two did make an appearance together Tuesday on BET's "106th and Park" in a special show called "Clash of The Titans," (West brought Jay-Z for support), West completely blew off his scheduled MTV appearance in protest, saying MTV disrespected him at the Video Music Awards on Sunday because they didn't let him perform on the main stage and also because although he was bestowed 5 nominations, he still went home empty handed.
"Kanye's not too happy with MTV," "TRL" host Damien Fahey explained. "He walked away from the VMAs very empty-handed. He won't be here."
Of course, 50 Cent, promoting his "Curtis" (Aftermath/Interscope) album, was more than happy to take center stage on the show, joking, "He's nervous. You think he had a problem with MTV? Nah. He knew he had to be here today...He was like, 'You don't want to give me no trophies? OK, I quit.'"
"My album is the pinnacle of what music is at that time," West said. "It's clearly the best album that you can buy."
"Kanye West doesn't stand a chance," 50 Cent said on BET's "106th and Park," adding, "It's not actual beef. It's just being competitive."
So far, it seems Kanye is leading the pack, while 50 Cent and country crooner Kenny Chesney are battling it out for second place.
